Cohen takes time to smell the flowers.

Cohen takes his time as he walks around the yard.  He feels each blossom and trys to drink in every ounce of color and aroma it has to offer...That done he's off to the next  great discovery and adventure.

He checks on his buddy, Baby Jesus, and his mom.  On each visit he offers them a little something he has picked up especially for them.  Today it is gravel and a shell for snack.

When he sees they are satisfied he finds more flowers to evaluate.

We meander down to the garden and check the rows of corn.  Not long before we have some wonderful Silver Queen.

The  blackberry vines are looking great and should give us enough berries for some nice cobblers.

He'll just move the hose closer to the Day Lillies in case they need to be watered soon.

This ant hill looks like a nice resting place.  Oh No!  Come Little Man, grandma' thinks you need to find another spot for play.

All right Grandma'.  Let's head in for our nap.

Tiny Frog

P6180055One of the twins found this tiny frog in the grass near the blue berry bushes.P6180059 They held on to him while I ran to get the camera.  I was excited as I haven’t seen a frog like this before.  I wonder if it is a tree frog?  I’m not sure what type frog it is,  but I will look it up and see if I can identify it.  It is, as Sophia says, “sooo cute”.  I’ve seen little toads,  but never a frog this small.  And, honestly, it is cute.
P6180062
P6180063See how tiny he is!  I found out he is the tiniest frog in North America…what ja’ know!
OK.  The best I can tell by comparing pictures, is this is a Little Grass Frog.    Davidson's Herpetology Dept. has a   wonderful site for information, photos and the recorded calls of North Carolina’s amphibians and reptiles .  I tried to put the link here but wasn't able to do it.  Wait a minute...let me try something... Check it out....http://www.herpsofnc.org/herps_of_NC/anurans/anurans.html     There, maybe that has it.

Wrens build a new home....

A Carolina wren has built her nest on a shelf  in the garage.  She has tucked it in behind a Rubbermaid container and a bag of old VCR tapes; college calculus no less.  Maybe she watches them at night.
I am glad to have her here, but , I am very concerned as Jim feeds his 5, yes five, cats in the garage each evening!  I am afraid once the babies are hatched they will become cat food.  I have a  large dog crate that I am going to try to place around the nest allowing the mommy bird access to her brood while keeping the cats at bay..Or ! Better yet, I'll go buy some chicken wire and shape it around the whole shelf  without disturbing so  much that Mommy stays away.

Can you find the nest among all of the stuff  I never use but must keep?

Aren't bird's nests just a marvel !
We also have a wren nest in our paper box at the end of the drive way.  We no longer get the paper so that is one hazard avoided.  But, again there are the cat patrols.
In an earlier post I had a picture of  a Robin's broken shell on the ground in the front yard.  I believe our resident Black snake is the culprit there.   There isn't anything I can do about him.  He is the guardian of the work shop and shed in the back yard.  And let me tell you , he is HUGE.  I've been trying to get him to let me take his picture but, he keeps himself hidden.
